Volunteering at the Mosaic Feline Rescue in Ann Arbor. These are wonderful cats and are looking for a good home. These photos are from Sunday May 19, 2013. We have alot from the "Materinty Ward" with all the kittens. And there are a ton of pics today because of all the new kittens and mothers who are at Mosaic. More kittens are on their way!

Volunteering at the Mosaic Feline Rescue in Ann Arbor. These are wonderful cats and are looking for a good home. There are lots of kittens and I made the trip in just to get some pics. Understatement of the year: "They are so very cute!" These photos are from Saturday May 26, 2012.

Pacific Wildlife Rescues Great Horned Owl
animal rescue

I watched a dramatic rescue yesterday by Pacific Wildlife Care volunteers responding to a call about a GHO caught on a barbed wire fence. Center Operations Chair, Dani, wrapped a towel around the owl's body and held it as Dale cut the barbed wire on each side of its wings to free it. The owl was taken to a local vet and euthanized due to the extent of its injuries.

Owls flying into barbed wire fences while hunting is a common occurrence. If not rescued, they die a slow, tortuous death. Even though this owl didn't make it, efforts of Pacific Wildlife Care ended its prolonged suffering. I'm glad to be a volunteer with this group that cares for wildlife. There are so many ways to help and I've already found several where I fit in.

"Pacific Wildlife Care's mission is to rehabilitate and return to their natural habitat, orphaned or injured wildlife, and to educate our community to value and respect wildlife and the environment we share with them."

Pacific Wildlife Care is licensed by CA Dept of Fish & Game and US Fish & Wildlife Service.

Ziggy - a friend's dog - rescued dog
animal rescue
Ziggy is a 2 or 3-yr old Boston Terrior - looks just like a little fat bug. LOL He's very happy in his new home of one year. His previous owner could not get him potty trained and so would leave him cooped up in a small pantry for 10 to 14 hours a day. My friends discovered him when they were hired to paint the house. Liz told the woman to either allow Liz to keep him for 3 days and get him housebroken or she would report them for cruelty to animals. The third day the owner called Liz and said, find him a home, she didn't want him back. This little dog cost the owner 00.00. Some people have more money than brains. And some people just are incapable of housebreaking dogs.

Tortoise Shell Rescue

A rescued feral kitten, this 12 week old tortoise shell shows a lot of sass and attitude -- and she loves people ....now.

She didn't begin her life with love, though. And certainly not with people! A few weeks ago she was a feral kitten and you couldn't get near her. She was on her own in the world. But then she fell ill.

She got so sick that she gave up on living. She couldn't run away anymore. And that is when I captured her. With antibiotics and love, her new life has begun....

Part of the feral cat rescue project.

This is the same Snapping Turtle after I yanked the fishing line from its mouth. I didn't get a hook when I pulled but the turtle was free of its anchor and able to swim without having to tow a long line of weeds with it. I have been assured by a good friend and herpetologist, that the turtle will now be fine as they are hardy and can sustain significant injury without dying. If you look closely you might see the small trail of blood coming from its mouth, leading to the left side of the photo off the frame. I did a quick yank so as not to induce too much tearing. I figured its sharp and powerful beak would cut the line, and it did!

I caught this hawk yesterday. It was attached to a cage with birds at our manege. She brook free during a demonstration and an hour later we found out who she belonged to and she was returned to her owner. They use these hawks to educate young people about birds of prey. It was born in captivity.
