Day 152/365 - A Little Squirrely
all about animals
I would like to be a squirrel. I realize that squirrels are essentially just rats with fluffy tails, but I'd still like to be a squirrel. Squirrels look like they have fun. They're always chasing each other around the trunks of trees, leaping from branch to branch, and chattering at each other.

Plus, squirrels are similar to some very cool things. They're like furry little ninjas in that they can run up the side of a tree, hang upside down, and blend in with their environment. They're like pirates because they like to loot and pillage bird feeders and they are always burying and digging up their treasure. They can also run across powerlines like tightrope walkers in the circus.

And flying squirrels are even more awesome yet! In addition to all the standard squirrel superpowers as discussed above, they can soar through the air. So if you don't particularly feel like climbing down your tree, running across the meadow, and climbing up the tree on the other side, you just jump off a branch, spread your skin-flaps, and hang-glide your way on over.

Being a city squirrel would be really cushy. You have no real predators to worry about. Dogs may chase you, but they'll never catch you. Plus, if you don't feel like hunting for acorns, you can just go and hang out in the park and some sucker will come along and feed you part of his or her lunch. Ahhh, that's the life. Some people might like to be dolphins or eagles or lions but, as for me, I'd rather be a squirrel.

What kind of animal would you be, if you had the choice?

On daze, like this
In times like these
I feel an animal deep inside
Heel to haunch on bended knees
Living on if and if I tried,
Somebody send me... please...
Dream wars and a ticket to seem

Sisters of Mercy - This Corrosion

Grunge'd version of my tankers shot, I love the way this filter enhances the shadows and contrasts like this to give the dirty industrial look, its fun for these subjects.

About the photographer

Monkeyc is a former photojournalist who fled the bright lights and dingy darkrooms for fame, fortune and a living wage back in the mists of time, now a sometime amateur photographer who dreams of the days when he understood esoteric concepts such as depth of field and aperture as an escape from a life spent dealing with the problems of suffering users and staff in the world of corporate Information Technology.

Why Creative Commons?

The decision to license my work as creative commons was an easy and almost automatic one - my work is for personal enjoyment and I want others to be able to enjoy my work and to incorporate it into their visions. Today I find photography is a personal pleasure, I no longer have to make a living from my camera - its just my vision of the world - a unique vision to me but with CC its also something you can take and turn into something from your world - the scope is inifite and it sets the images free in so many ways - The creative commons license is a perfect example of the sort of copyright changes the modern world needs to come to grips with in the digital age, information should be free to all.

I did I did I did.

Our only leopard, but we were so delighted to see him (all cats are shes by default, unless proof in the opposite is given, and from the way this one peed on our car tyre, I think boyleopardus). He was sprawled on top of a rock in the sun, eagerly snapped by the paparazzi of up to about 14 cars. As we left, he came down off his rock, and headed straight towards us.
