A arara-vermelha (Ara chloroptera) é uma ave psitaciforme, nativa das florestas do Panamá até Santa Catarina, Paraguai e Argentina. A sua alimentação é baseada em sementes, frutas e coquinhos.
A arara-vermelha mede até noventa centímetros de comprimento e pesa até 1,5 quilogramas. Cada postura é composta por ovos de cinco centímetros, incubados por 29 dias.
O ninho dessa arara é feito em ocos de árvores, mas ela também se aproveita de buracos em paredes rochosas para colocar os ovos, os quais são chocados apenas pela fêmea, que fica no ninho. Quem cuida de garantir a alimentação tanto da fêmea como dos filhotes é o macho, que, nessa espécie, é fiel, mantendo a mesma companheira durante a vida inteira.

The scarlet macaw measures up to three feet long and weigh up to 1.5 kilograms. Each posture is comprised of five centimeters eggs, incubated for 29 days.
The nest is made of this macaw in tree hollows, but it also takes advantage of holes in rock walls to lay eggs, which are incubated by the female only, which is in the nest. Une Sterne naine (Sterna albifrons) dans le ciel de Gruissan (11). Elle était en train de pêcher de la manière la plus caractéristique qui soit : elle bat des ailes sans discontinuité au dessus d'un bas fond, cherche sa cible, fait un vol stationnaire d'une ou deux secondes avant de plonger la tête la première dans l'eau. Elle réapparait très peu de temps après, souvent avec son butin dans le bec !
On la nomme parfois "Hirondelle des mers" pour la ressemblance de sa silhouette avec une hirondelle (petite taille, queue de la même forme). Cette espèce hiverne en Afrique.
