Aftermath, Truck lost control at the Holmston Roundabout (Ayr) and rolled over ejecting it’s load of animal carcasses. Fortunately the driver only suffered minor injury's, and it happened early on so no pedestrians were around.

I'm calling her "Bliss" because the shelter has neglected to give her a name (they simply get too many cats this time of year to name them all).

It's still "adopt a shelter cat month." So I suggest you do that if you're thinking of doing so at all. Too many cats. Not enough adoptions.

From the shelter: Looks can be deceiving. At first glance this wonderful young cat looks aloof and disinterested. But just touch her and see what happens. She is EXTREMELY affectionate and loving, very gentle and just a bit shy at times. A very nice cat! Cats without identification are placed for adoption immediately due to the large numbers impounded each day. This shelter impounds so many cats that they may have as little as one day before they are euthanized due to a lack of space. If you see a cat that you are interested in you should act immediately.

The National Fire Dog Monument was created to recognize the incredible contributions that accelerant detection canines (arson dogs) make in keeping communities safe. These dogs do not ask for anything in return after risking their lives to reduce the negative impact of arson in their communities.

The life size bronze monument depicts a firefighter looking down at his canine partner who in turn is looking up at his partner ready to work. This incredible monument, From Ashes to Answers, was sculpted by 22 year old artist and Colorado firefighter, Austin Weishel. The bronzing process is being completed by BRONZE SERVICES FINE ART FOUNDRY in Loveland, CO.

The monument traveled from Denver, CO to Washington D.C. for placement at D.C. Fire Station #3 where the general public will be able to view it. The National Fire Dog Monument road show; is co-sponsored by State Farm and the American Humane Association. The monument made stops at state capitals along the way to D.C. as a way to recognize the contributions of first responders and their canine partners.

I found this Grizzly near the summit of Mount Washburn early one morning through my binoculars. I spread the word of my sighting and a small group of people gathered watching her through a spotting scope. Then she started heading down slope toward the road. At one point they crossed a snow bank and the cubs had good time playing in the snow. Then she disappeared behind a ridge,but believing she was still heading down slope,I went to try and intersect her as she crossed the road. I was able to find her on the side of an open ridge just a few hundred yards from the road, and found an old level track to watch her from with relative safety of about 150 yards. After awhile I realized a small crown of people had gathered with me to watch her. She completely ignored us and never showed us any sign of aggression,even though every once in a while she would smell us and look at us. But she slowly made her way closer and closer to us,and people started to get nervous. At one point someone said "I'll leave when he does",referring to me, I responded,oh,you don't want to do that, lets just say I am not known for my judgment,you see,I have nothing to lose. Mean while everyone got some good photos,although the lighting wasn't perfect. Then she disappeared into the trees,and not knowing where she was,I declared,People,its time to go. So we all went back down to the road,and waited for her to emerge from the woods and cross the road. we waited almost an hour,but she never came back out of the forest. apparently the Park Service had been hazing her by shooting her with bean bags when ever she was on the road,and so she was hesitant to cross once they showed up. Typical day of bear watching in Yellowstone.

The Government Center is the temporary home for the monument, which will be relocated to its permanent home at the county’s Animal Shelter when current construction at the facility is complete.

Nurses with the hospital pet. This image shows a group of nurses posing for the camera with the hospital pet, a little dog. They appear to be standing on a balcony. The nurse in the middle is wearing an armband with the insignia of 'THE S. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE HOSPITAL.' The woman on the far left has the same insignia on her belt buckle. Their uniforms are all in pristine condition, and they all look happy and relaxed. According to the photograph's original caption they are waiting to meet Queen Mary.

During World War I, many hospitals and medical services were set up at the Front and at home. The Red Cross and the St John Ambulance Brigade worked closely to provide treatment and care for those wounded in the war.

Trixie is a NEADS service dog specializing in hearing.

A blurb from their website:
NEADS trains all breeds and mixed breeds of dogs to help people who are deaf or physically disabled live more independently. Most hearing dogs are rescued from animal shelters throughout New England. Most service dogs are donated as puppies by breeders throughout the country. Most service dogs are Golden or Labrador retrievers, however, many other breeds are also suitable. Any dog "with the right stuff" can partner with a person to provide independence and companionship by reducing physical and social barriers.

I've learned that Trixie passed away at age 17 on June 9, 2010. She served well and will be missed. Rest in Peace, Trixie! "Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole." -Roger Caras
