After croquet, we stopped at the Beach House Cafe, where they were just starting to cook the lobsters for the Monday lobster bake.
What they do is:
1) They run a fire during the day, until the coals are steaming, steaming, steaming hot.
2) They throw in a bunch of corn and potatoes and seaweed. The seaweed isn't eaten, it simply contains a lot of moisture that is released when sitting on the coals, causing everything to be steamed.
3) They throw on the lobsters (live, of course) and more seaweed. Lobsters writhe in delicious agony.
4) They cover the entire thing with an oil soaked canvas.
5) They cover that with a huge tarp.
6) They put rocks on the tarp.
Basically, a few wisps of steam come out, but for the most part, they end up getting steamed at incredible temperatures (and all natural ingredients).
Carolyn's family signed up for the Wednesday Lobster Bake, but everyone missed them cooking the lobsters. We're glad we happened to catch it on Monday.

BACKSTORY: Carolyn's family reunion was at Cape Cod this year. We stayed at the Chatham Bars Inn. It was a lot of fun, and we were happy to see everyone.
