Israel bank stamp: turtle

I think this is from a set of Israeli Postal Bank Savings Stamps depicting various animals (not regular postage). If anyone has more info on this series please let me know.
My guess is that the designer could be Asher Kalderon, but it is just a shot in the dark.

The Botanic Gardens - Dublin, Ireland
In 1790, the Irish Parliament, with the active support of The Speaker of the House, John Foster, granted funds to the Dublin Society (now the Royal Dublin Society), to establish a public botanic garden. In 1795, the Gardens were founded on lands at Glasnevin.
The original purpose of the Gardens was to promote a scientific approach to the study of agriculture. In its early years the Gardens demonstrated plants that were useful for animal and human food and medicine and for dyeing but it also grew plants that promoted an understanding of systematic botany or were simply beautiful or interesting in themselves.
Today, the overall design and contents of the Garden creates an environment that is stimulating, whether you visit for instruction or pleasure.
Within the living collections at the National Botanic Gardens they have over 300 endangered species from around the world, and 6 species already extinct in the wild. These are a vital resource, like a Noah's Ark for the future.

SingularCollective
Also on inauguration night, I went to see Animal Collective play a gig (starting the tour for their new album).
Animal Collective, if you don't know them, started off as a kind of noise rock experimental band. They still play around with noises, but there are irrepressible melodies just bursting to get out from within. Still, they have always felt like such an obscure band to me - like they would have such limited appeal and I had found something truly my own. It was strange then, to be surrounded by hundreds of others who were sharing this secret. It was all of ours, but it still felt like we were keeping it to ourselves.
Highly recommended show if you get the chance.

Day two of our trip was a visit to the Oregon Zoo, which the kids loved and was much cooler than I expected. We arrived right when the zoo opened, and a lot of the animals were still sleeping -- but this elephant was out and about, looking for food.

Lion - Panthera Leo - Smithsonian Institution - Washington DC National Zoo.
The National Zoological Park is a part of the Smithsonian Institution, the world’s largest museum and research complex. The Smithsonian includes 18 museums and galleries, as well as the National Zoo. The words "National Zoo" represent a large, complex, and diverse organization with a multifaceted mission: demonstrate leadership in animal care, science, education, and sustainability. The National Zoo is far more than a place where people can see wild animals. We are a 163-acre zoological park set amid Rock Creek Park in the heart of Washington, D.C. Open to the public 364 days a year, we are home to 2,000 individual animals of nearly 400 different species. The Zoo is one of Washington's and the Smithsonian's most popular tourist destinations. We welcome up to two million visitors—from the local community, the country, and the rest of the world—every year, free of charge.

Mason was found and cared for as a stray. After calling six microchip providers, we found out his microchip is untraceable. He is sweet, affectionate and good with other cats, dogs and children. He is in good health, and has a handsome glossy black coat which he spends quite some time grooming. Mason has been with us since April 17th, 2010, enjoying the cat condos in the Memory Lane room and watching the world go by through the window. He seems to have no interest in going back outside, so would be a great cat for an apartment or other small home.

Image by Rev. Xanatos Satanicos Bombasticos (ClintJCL)
Random animal rape art. And somebody out there is turned on by this.
"As a native New Yorker, Alexis Rockman (1962- ) was deeply influenced by the exhibits and displays at the American Museum Of Natural History. The relationship between nature, culture, and the environment is a recurring theme in his work, which addresses the power, and potential perversion, of science. Rockman is a self-described pop artist who employs the iconography of natural history. His recent work addresses the global impact of climate change and the biotech revolution.
The Trough, a depiction of a pig mounting a goose, two familiar staples of domesticated farmland, can be read as an allegorical representation of genetic engineering. The Trough came to the Museum Of Sex through a generation donation by art collector Peter Norton."

BACKSTORY: We were only scheduled to be in town for about 26 hours. And that included *two* sleeps. Combined with the SubGenius devival we were going to later that day, we really didn't have much time to do anything. We woke up, walked around Chinatown, ate, and then headed to the Museum Of Sex to see what oddities it had to offer. Then we went straight to the SubGenius Devival in Astoria afterward.
