So had the two animals, the Akita dog cute, puppy in front of a convenience store, and I was allowed to take. AF Auto, ISO auto, auto white balance, camera settings, is a D-range optimizer level 5. Since the shutter speed 1/30, dog in the foreground is causing the subject shake. The camera might be a little weak moving subjects, but this camera can take As you saw in the eyes of people totally amazing!

The onset of summer for animal care staff at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, Va., means patiently awaiting endangered-animal births, hand-raising youngsters and saying farewell to cubs that are ready to be matched with mates. This year, SCBI-Front Royal celebrated its first hatching of the year Jan. 31 with a kiwi chick. Many more species followed, namely clouded leopard cubs, maned wolf pups and a white-naped crane chick. All of these species—which range in International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List status from near threatened to endangered—are significant and represent great conservation successes.

SCBI geneticists have identified the white-naped crane chick that hatched April 14 as a male. The biological parents of the chick, Alex and Amanda, were unable to breed naturally because Amanda was hand-raised and is partially imprinted (socially bonded) with people. Because white-naped cranes are vulnerable to extinction—and because this pair is genetically valuable—SCBI scientists performed an artificial insemination. They then transferred the egg to the care another crane pair, Brenda and Eddie, who had successfully raised chicks before. The chick is doing well and is almost the same size as an adult.

Two male maned wolf pups born April 14 to 2-year-old female Vitani and 8-year-old male, Paul, received a clean bill of health at their first veterinary exam. They appear to be robust and healthy. Keepers have nicknamed the pups “Bold” and “Shy” for their distinctive personalities. Only 85 maned wolves are part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan, and these pups account for 40 percent of successful maned wolf births in the United States this year. A leader in maned wolf conservation, SCBI has had 74 pups born there since 1975—more than any other institution.

Male clouded leopard cub Mingma and his sister, Kali, were transferred to their new home at the Nashville Zoo June 20. Mingma weighed about 9 pounds, and Kali weighed about 8 pounds at a pre-shipment exam. Born Feb. 6, the cubs will be paired with their future mates. Doing so drastically reduces the risk of aggression between these endangered cats when they reach sexual maturity. Clouded leopard infants have a 47 percent survival rate, which soars to 99 percent if the cats are hand-reared. Listed as vulnerable to extinction in the wild, SCBI has had more than 70 clouded leopards born there over the past 30 years and is a leader in conservation science initiatives to save the species.

Female North Island brown kiwi chick Manawa Ora hatched Jan. 31. Her name means “hope” in Maori. The IUCN considers the brown kiwi an endangered species due, in part, to predation by dogs, cats and stoats (members of the weasel family). The wild population of the brown kiwi is estimated at roughly 24,000, down from 60,000 in the 1980s. Kiwi in zoos are extremely rare. Only five zoos outside of New Zealand have successfully bred these unique birds, and the population is heavily skewed toward males. Manawa Ora will become a valuable breeder because her genes are not well-represented in the captive population. She will remain at SCBI-Front Royal until she reaches sexual maturity at 2-3 years of age.

The Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute plays a key role in the Smithsonian's global efforts to understand and conserve species and train future generations of conservationists. Headquartered in Front Royal, Va., SCBI facilitates and promotes research programs based at Front Royal, the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., and at field research stations and training sites worldwide.

RoRo always found the other owls amusing. As they would fly around and hoot and holler all night, he would wisely sit back and wait in a nice high tree and watch. He knew that being patient, and analyzing all of the efforts and rabble rousing of the other owls could lead to him making one great catch. And most nights, his wise ways led him to the top prize. Now he is looking for a new friend who can be his top prize and help him wisely snuggle and nap, until night comes...

Misfit made sure to keep tabs on the raccoon. Despite his earlier vocal objections to being near the raccoon and not being in control of the situation, he also doesn't want to be far from it either. I've heard of guard dogs, but here we have a LOLcat in the making: A guard cat.

(And yes, that's a Commodore 64 box under the foosball table.)

I love deer. I have dreams about them.

Photographing wildlife is so exhilarating. I don't have that good of a zoom lens, I was extremely close to all of these animals and it is such a humbling experience. These were taken in Grand Canyon National Park where I guess the animals are fairly desensitized to tourists because they all seemed quite comfortable around me. It wasn't as if they had been fed either, none badgered me for food. It was almost eerie how they didn't run away at the sound of the shutter like the deer where I live.

Ladybug Close-Up

Some cool about animals images:

Ladybug Close-Up
about animals
Spring is really here, I found my first ladybugs this year.

What I find very interesting on this one, is that you can easily see how shallow the DOF of a macro is (about half the size of the ladybug). Considering it's f/4.5 of a 60mm lens the DOF is only a few mm deep, this can be best seen looking at the wood, which shows how fast the picture moves from sharp to unsharp. This shallow DOF is the biggest problems in such shots, even worse if you don't have a tripod at hand for a shot. It's a good thing that the lens has an image stabilizer, but this doesn't help against moving the subject out of focus.

And here is another shot of the sam ladybug.

Moon Jellies (Aurelia aurita)
types of animals
Moon jelly, or Aurelia aurita, are probably the most common and widely recognized type of jellyfish. They can be found in the Atlantic, Arctic and Pacific Oceans near the coasts. The animal ranges in size from 5cm to 40cm across. The moon jelly is easily recognizable by its four violet or pink crescent shaped gonads on the underside and at the centre of its translucent bell or umbrella. Also, its bell is thicker towards the middle, thinning towards the edge. Like many other species of jellyfish, the moon jelly’s ability to move by itself is limited, so it is subjected to the water currents of the ocean.

Just another reason why Disney parks can be a photographer's playground; animals, architecture, and portraits in the morning, and a theater show in the afternoon. You really can shoot just about any type of subject you can imagine all in the same day. It really does keep you on your toes as you adapt to the different situations, but it's very fun!

10 pointed Religion, more or less...
facts about animals
The Arabesque, an aspect of Islamic art usually found decorating the walls of Mosques, is an elaborate application of repeating geometric forms that often echo the forms of plants and animals; the choice of which geometric forms to use and how they are formatted are based upon the Islamic view of the world. To Muslims, these forms, taken together, constitute an infinite pattern that extends beyond the visible material world. To many in the Islamic world, they in fact symbolize the infinite and therefore, uncentralized nature of the One God's(Allah's) creation. Furthermore, the Islamic Arabesque artist conveys a definite spirituality without the iconography of Christian art.

Geometric artwork in the form of the Arabesque was not widely used in the Islamic world until the golden age of Islam came into full bloom. During this time, ancient texts were translated from their original Greek and Latin into Arabic. Like the following renaissance in Europe, Math, Science, Literature and History were infused into the Islamic world with great, and mostly positive repercussions. The works of Plato and especially of Euclid became popular among the literate. In fact, it was Euclid's geometry along with the foundations of trigonometry codified by Pythagoras that became the impetus of the art form that was to become the Arabesque. Furthermore, Plato's ideas about the existence of a separate reality that was perfect in form and function and crystalline in character also would contribute to the development of the Arabesque.

BTW: I’m christian…and that’s a message to the world that we should BELIEVE in other’s Beliefs and not just RESPECT!....learn and share not just avoid and criticize….live and let die is not a good concept!!
